Before, During & After ADHD Assessment
A practical, ADHD-friendly guide for adults exploring diagnosis, self-identification, burnout, masking, and the emotional impact of finally starting to make sense of things.

THE THING NOBODY SAYS OUT LOUD
You know what it’s like to sit across from someone and realise you’ve spent half the session translating yourself.
Trying to explain why one message unsettled you for the rest of the day. Why you were fine at work and then fell apart at home. Why rest doesn’t actually restore you.
Why you can understand your patterns perfectly and still not be able to interrupt them when your nervous system has already taken over.
And then there’s that moment where the other person nods, kindly enough, but you can tell they’ve understood the words more than the experience.
That isn’t what happens here.
I’m Michael Dodden, a counsellor, coach, and late-diagnosed AuDHD adult.
I know what it is to look back over decades of burnout, masking, emotional intensity, shutdowns, overthinking, and self-blame, and realise there was a pattern underneath it.
This work is not about forcing you into someone else’s system.
It is about finding a way forward that actually fits.
Who finds their way here
People usually arrive here at one of three points.

You’re wondering whether this is you.
Maybe a partner mentioned ADHD.
Maybe your child was diagnosed and something started to click.
Maybe you fell into a late-night rabbit hole and kept reading because too much of it sounded familiar.
You may not have a diagnosis. You may not even be sure what you’re looking for yet.
That is still a valid place to begin.

You’ve had the diagnosis, but not the support.
The report may have explained a lot, but it may not have changed much.
You were given words, scores, recommendations, maybe medication options, and then somehow left to work out the emotional reality on your own.

You already know, but you’re still stuck.
You understand the masking, the burnout, the shutdowns, the rejection sensitivity, the overthinking.
But knowing why something happens does not always mean you know what to do when it is happening.
That is where the work begins.
What we actually work on
The emotional explosion that seems to come from nowhere.
Except it rarely comes from nowhere. It often comes after hours of holding yourself together, reading the room, managing tone, masking discomfort, and then one small thing lands at the wrong time.
The way criticism lands in the body before you can think your way around it.
A message left on read. A shift in someone’s voice. A look across a room. Suddenly your system is reacting before your rational mind has caught up.
The shutdown that other people mistake for not caring.
The silence. The disappearing. The feeling of being unreachable even to yourself. And then the repair work afterwards, when the damage has already been done.
The burnout that is not fixed by a week off.
The exhaustion of being slightly different in every room. The cost of performing competence, calmness, sociability, patience, and ease when none of it feels easy.
The diagnosis that explains the past but does not automatically rebuild the present.
A label can bring relief. It can also leave you standing in the middle of your own history, wondering what to do with everything you now understand.
This is the work.
Not a tidier to-do list.
Not another morning routine you already know you will abandon.
The actual thing.
How this works
Who am I?
I’m Michael, a counsellor, coach, and diagnosed AuDHD based in Norwich.
I work as both a therapist and a coach because they do different jobs. The therapy goes into the deeper material. The coaching deals with the practical reality of living in a world that does not always match how your brain works. We find the right balance together.
The approach is integrative and body-aware. That simply means we pay attention to what is happening in your body as well as what you can put into words. A lot of the ND experience shows up physically before it becomes thought, and working at that level changes things that talking alone does not always shift.
Sessions adapt to you. That might mean shorter bursts. It might mean walking rather than sitting. It might mean dropping structure entirely if structure is part of the problem.

The Road Map

ADHD Roadmap is not just a therapy practice.
It is a growing body of work built around one idea: that there is a way through this, and that having the right map changes how you move through it.
That might be one conversation. It might be ongoing work. It might be something more structured over time.
You do not need to know that yet.
You just need a place to start.
When you’re ready
There’s no form to fill in. No questionnaire about your symptoms.
Just a call of 30 minutes, free, no obligation. We work out whether this feels like the right fit. If it doesn’t, I’ll tell you honestly, and point you somewhere that might suit you better.
