ADHD RoadMap

RSD, Emotional Overwhelm and Shutdown

When criticism, conflict, rejection or a small change in someone’s tone can feel huge, it is not always possible to think your way out of it in the moment.

When everything lands too hard

Rejection sensitivity, emotional overwhelm and shutdown can leave you reacting before you have had time to understand what happened. You may lash out, people-please, disappear, over-explain, replay the conversation for hours, or feel numb and unable to speak.

These responses make sense in context. They can still be painful and costly, particularly in relationships and at work.

What we work on

  • Recognising what happens in your body and mind before the reaction takes over.
  • Understanding the history and meaning attached to criticism, conflict and perceived rejection.
  • Building ways to pause, communicate and repair that do not rely on getting it right every time.
  • Reducing shame after difficult moments, so one reaction does not become proof that you are broken.

Support that is practical and human

There is no simple trick that makes strong feelings disappear. The work is about understanding your pattern and giving you more choice around what happens next.
